I joined the department of Agricultural Economics at Purdue in August 2005. As a master's student, I had the unique opportunity to continue my interests in Asian cocoa production. With my thesis advisor and a team of industry professionals, I designed my thesis project.
Over the past two years, I have had many opportunities to travel and conduct fieldwork in Europe and in Indonesia.
In August/September 2006, together with a team of local enumerators, I administered a farm level survey to 600+ cocoa farmers in Sulawesi , Indonesia . Through numerous field visits and analysis of collected data, I have gained new insights into the cocoa farming system in Indonesia , the third largest cocoa producer worldwide. It has been an enormous privilege working with my advisor and mentor, Dr. Shively. I can say with certainty, that joining Purdue's graduate program far exceeded any expectations I had of graduate school. The classes, professors, research, and the friends you meet all contribute to the experience here at Purdue.
